TO VISIT
the farmhouse is situated in Volterra area , at about 10 km from the centre of the city . You can reach the heart of Volterra in about 10 minutes by car .
Volterra is 20 minutes away from hotel on foot (the first leg is uphill, but the return is a nice downhill!) or 3 minutes away by car.

The small town is very well kept, a true historical town and has interesting monuments, museums and buildings from an historical and artistic point of view: from Etruscans to Romans, up until the Middle Ages. Along with its beautiful historical sites, Volterra is famous for alabaster, the white, luxurious material used for interior decors and to create elegant items for the house.

Volterra is in the middle of Tuscany, in a position close of the most important towns of artistic interest:
1 hour from Siena
30 minutes from the seaside (Cecina)
1 hour from Chianti
1 hour from Firenze
40 minutes from Certaldo, Boccaccio's native town
1 hour from Pisa
30 minutes from San Gimignano
1 hour from Lucca
1 hour from Vinci, Leonardo da Vinci's native town
1 hour and 10 minutes from Populonia, a town with the Etruscan necropolises, and from Massa Marittima
45 minutes from Bolgheri, renowned for its fine wines and wineries
1 hour and 30 minutes from Montalcino and Montepulciano.

Volterra is famous all over the world for its balze (cliffs):an area with a clay and sand soil that time has turned into a breathtaking landscape with clefts, precipices and creeks... You can go for day trips along the various cycle routes and loops: as many as 23 loop paths for mountain bikes, trekking or horse riding to visit the villages and natural reserves of the Alta Val di Cecina.
Volterra is also very close to the seaside: Cecina is just over 30 minutes away, but there are also many other towns on the coast that are worth visiting: Castiglioncello, Baratti's Gulf, Marina di Bibbona, San Vincenzo and Follonica's Gulf.

Finally, a must-see:
heading south from Pomarance, the Valle del Diavolo: volcanic phenomena cause vapour to rise from the ground, thermal water springs with a strong smell of sulphur and boiling mud pools. You will see the silvery pipes running along the hills for kilometres up to the power plants. It's worth visiting the Geothermal museum in Larderello, with its 'soffioni', boric acid fumaroles and the Lagoni del Sasso.

the parks of the Val di Cornia, between nature and archeology, on the Costa degli Etruschi: the archeological park of Baratti and Populonia, the coastal park of Sterpaia and Rimigliano with its crystal clear water and untouched natural surroundings, Piombino and Campiglia Marittima.
