The area belongs to the Oltrarno district in Florence, south of the Arno River. Here you can admire some of the most famous and characteristic Renaissance buildings. The district is known for its authentic flavor.
The Santo Spirito Church, designed by Brunelleschi, is within easy walking distance, as is the Palazzo Pitti, plus the Santa Maria del Carmine church with its famous Brancacci chapel containing Masaccio’s frescoes.
The Old Bridge, the Uffizi Gallery and the Florence Cathedral are easily accessible on foot.
If you do not mind walking there are magnificent views of Florence from the Forte Belvedere and Piazzale Michelangelo, an unbeatable destination for an ice-cream or a glass of wine while watching the sunset.
